WOD 13AUG09
Posted by admin on August 12th, 2009 filed in WODI just got the call a few minutes ago from my Mom letting me know that my grandmother passed away in her sleep this afternoon. I wanted to log on to post my score to the website prior to making calls to my family etc., and at that point I read the quote that I had picked for this workout. How appropriate for my grandma. Dorothy Margaret Black (or Nan as everyone called her) was 92 years old. She passed away quietly in her sleep in Hilliard, Ohio. She is the daughter of two German immigrants who came to the United States seeking a better life for their family. She is the loving wife of her late husband Richard Black, and the mother of 4, the late Richard Black Jr., Margaret Edman, Martha Tussing, and Jane Hollon. There are no words to describe the impact that she has had on my life, and the lives of everyone with whom she ever came in contact with. She loved her family, loved her country, and embodies everything that we should all strive to be. It is easy for me to want to morn her loss, but instead I ask you to take a moment to be grateful for your own lives, your loved ones, and the opportunity we all have to make an impact in this world. Of particular note, she was always wearing her blue “CrossFit Neptune” t-shirt and bragging about it to all of her friends at her nursing home. She got all kinds of looks and comments, but she wore it with pride! At the end of the workout tomorrow, I will do 92 burpees for Nan. May she rest in peace, and forever know that she is loved!

XO: The way I see it, the record is 3-2-1 in your favor since my return (the tie being the day Sharp decided to randomly UPSCALE the workout). I think I should get a handicap for your two month head start while I was in summer school, and I will give you a senior citizen handicap for the additional 30+ year age gap. With those canceling each other out, I say we are about even. Respectfully submitted.

LT,
I’m sorry to hear the sad news about your Grandmother. I know how much she meant to you and also how much you looked forward to having her there for you this fall. My deepest condolences to you and your Mother, sir.
Kyzer,
You and the XO maybe even, but how in the world does the CO smoke you by over three minutes on the 150 KB swing/75 SDHP workout without any running involved?? That one seriously requires some explanation.

Kyzer,
You’ve had too many “returns” to even discuss that factoring in.

Sir-
First off, I am very sorry to hear about your loss. My condolences to you and your family. I am also very close to my grandparents, and know how important and influential they can be in ones life.
Second, unlike my other “returns” this one was out of my control. But, at risk of digging myself a deeper hole, I will leave it at that. Hope all else is well on the other side of the country.
YNC-
My attempt at an explination: You know that bad things happen with me when you put extremely high reps into two workouts that I suck at. The CO can pump out high reps. Today was more up my ally. Bad explination, but I tried! Hope all else is well on the other side of the world.

Oh David, you make my heart smile and my eyes cry. You said it all with your tribute to Nan. She was always so very proud of everything you did, but joining the Navy was a big one. I know she will be up there, watching over you every single day for the rest of your life, no matter where you are, giving you “direction” always. She was certainly one of a kind and will be sorely missed by all.
Love,
Mom

I just read this today, I’m very sorry to hear about this LT. I hope everyone else in your family is OK and I’ll do the burpees as well, the 92 for your grandmother and 23 for my brother cuz I know he’s up there getting her settled and comfortable.

Sir,
I am sorry to hear about your Grandmother. I have no doubt that if she was cut from the same cloth as you are she was one hell of a lady.
To the rest of CrossFit Neptune…3,2,1…GO!!!
Take Care…
